Defending champion Daejeon Go has reached the round of 16.
Daejeon Go defeated Cheongju 11-1 in the seventh inning in the second game of the 57th Presidential High School Baseball Tournament at Shinwol Baseball Stadium on Wednesday. The team didn’t hit a home run, but bombarded the opposing mound with 14 hits. Daejeon High starting pitcher Kim Min-wook pitched five innings of three-hit ball. At the plate, Lee Do-hyun, who batted fifth and played right field, went 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs.
Daejeon got on the board in the top of the second inning when Lee led off with a double to left field with the bases loaded, and Kang Jae-young followed with a walk. Han Ki-chan’s bunt was then misplayed by the Cheongju infield, allowing the first run to score.
Daejeon took the lead in the third inning. With runners on second and third, Yoon Young-woo on third and Park Joo-jin on fourth drew consecutive walks, and Lee Do-hyun hit a two-run double to left. Daejeon defeated Jeonju 7-4 in the final of the 56th Presidential Games on Aug. 17 last year, making it 28 years since the 1994 championship.
The earlier game between Chang’an and Incheon at Shinwol Baseball Stadium also ended in a cold game. Incheon took an 11-1 victory. The game was relatively close until the sixth inning, but Incheon scored two runs in the top of the seventh and six runs in the top of the eighth to take a 3-1 lead. Kim Hyun-jong, Lim Kyu-young, and Kim Ji-seok each had two hits for Incheon.
The game between Jinyoung University and Cheongdam University at Mokdong Stadium was won by Cheongdam University 9-8. In the bottom of the first inning, with runners on first and second, Lim Chae-min drew a walk and Kim Min-jin followed with a single to open the scoring, and Hong Min-kyu scored on a groundout and Kim Taek-yoon, the No. 7 hitter, scored on a wild pitch.
Cheongdam gave up three runs in the second inning as starter Song Byung-sun was shaky, but the team responded with two more runs in the third and fourth innings. Jinyoungo added one run in the eighth and ninth innings, but lost by one run.
In the game between Gwangju Jeil-Go and Gunsan Sang-Il-Go, Gunsan Sang-Il-Go won 5-2. In the bottom of the seventh inning with a 2-1 lead, Lee Jun-woo drew a walk, Lee Jae-hoon singled to left, and Kang Min-je doubled to right-center. Kang Min-je came home on a sacrifice fly by Park Sung-bin. Sangil-Go held Gwangju Jeil-Go to one run.
