The KT Wiz used the height of their mound to defeat the SSG Landers and extend their winning streak to five games.
KT won 1-0 against SSG in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Katie Wiz Park in Suwon on February 2.
With their latest five-game winning streak, fifth-ranked KT improved their season record to 46 wins, 2 draws, and 43 losses, and will look to move up the standings depending on results at other venues.
Second-place SSG, on the other hand, fell to 50-1-37 after losing to KT for the second straight day.
KT starter William Cuevas earned his fourth win of the season with a dazzling seven innings of six-hit ball, striking out five and walking none.
Hwang Jae-gyun, who singled with two outs in the fourth inning, was the game-winning hit for KT.
SSG starter Kim Kwang-hyun pitched well, giving up one run on four hits (one home run) in seven innings with three walks and two strikeouts, but couldn’t get enough support from his offense to take his third loss of the season (six wins).

With the game tied at 0-0 in the first inning, KT took the lead in the fourth.
After leadoff hitter Anthony Alford doubled, Moon Sang-chul and Jang Jang-woo walked, but Hwang Jae-gyun hit an RBI double.
After being held scoreless by Cuevas until the seventh inning, SSG had the bases loaded in the top of the eighth, but Ha Jae-hoon struck out to end the threat.
SSG also had the misfortune of having their manager Kim Won-hyung ejected in the bottom of the eighth inning for strongly protesting the umpire’s decision, as he was furious that Kim Sang-soo’s check swing was not recognized.
KT brought in closer Kim Jae-yoon to protect the one-run lead in the top of the ninth. Kim gave up a hit to Choi Jun-woo in the first, but did not allow a hit to the subsequent batters to preserve the win.
