Former Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has been appointed as the new manager of Celtic, where Oh Hyun-gyu plays.
Celtic announced on its website on Nov. 19 (local time), “We have appointed Rodgers as manager. The contract is for a period of three years.” Celtic have been searching for a new manager since Enzi Postecoglou, who led them to a treble in the 2022-2023 season, left for Tottenham (England), where Son Heung-min plays, earlier this month. 안전놀이터
Under Postecoglou, who was brought in from K League One side Suwon Samsung in January, Celtic swept the regular season, Scottish Cup (FA Cup), and League Cup to win their eighth treble.
Rodgers, who succeeded Postecoglou, was also in charge of Celtic from 2016-2019. Celtic won the league, FA Cup, and League Cup in both the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons under Rodgers. During that time, Celtic went 69 games unbeaten in 585 days, starting on May 11, 2016 against St. Johnstone and ending on December 18, 2017 against Heart of Midlothian.
Rodgers built on his success at Celtic and moved to the English Premier League (EPL) in early 2019. He took charge of Leicester City and led them to a fifth-place finish in both the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 seasons. The Foxes maintained their position as a mid-table team in the 2021-2022 season, finishing in eighth place, but their fortunes plummeted in the 2022-2023 season and they were eventually relegated to the second tier. Unable to escape the blame for the poor performance, Rodgers stepped down in April after seven seasons of relegation for a team that had defied “1 in 5000” odds to lift the EPL title in its 132nd season in 2015-2016.
