‘Former SON teammates’ Walker, Kim Min-jae in the mix? Bayern-Man City to discuss transfer talks during Japan tour

Kyle Walker continues to be linked to Bayern Munich.

“If Bayern are able to reach an agreement with Manchester City, Walker’s transfer fee is likely to be in the region of £13 million ($21.5 billion), according to Sky Sports. Face-to-face talks between the two clubs are expected to take place in Japan in the coming days.”

Walker is one of the best defenders in England. He can cover the ball with tremendous intensity, and his powerful kicks can create goals and assists. Walker first came to prominence at Tottenham Hotspur, where he played right fullback. In 2017, he moved to Man City and started collecting trophies. He went on to have a stellar career, winning 14 titles with City. The 2022-2023 season was highlighted by helping City win their first ever treble.

Walker is looking for a new challenge this summer. Bayern are keen on a move. The Bavarians have better contract terms than City. City offered Walker, who has one year left on his contract, a one-year extension, but Bayern offered him a two-year deal with an option for a one-year extension. Walker’s place at City is dwindling. City played a three-back system without a specialized fullback last season, favoring Nathan Ake over Walker. When Ake was sidelined at the end of the season, Walker stepped in at right back, but he’s still not guaranteed playing time next season. His competition for a starting spot will be even tougher with the arrival of Josuco Gbardiol, who City are also targeting.

Bayern are revamping their defense this summer. Lucas Hernandez has left the team, and they’ve added Kim Min-Jae and Raphael Guerreiro. Adding Walker to the mix means that three of the starting back four positions will change.

Both teams will now embark on a preseason tour. Coincidentally, the two teams will play a friendly in Tokyo, Japan on June 26. Senior officials from both clubs are expected to meet in Japan to continue negotiations. After the Bayern game, City will travel to South Korea to play their final preseason game against Atletico Madrid in Seoul on the 30th.
