Manchester United defense nucleus Lissandro Martinez is headed to the operating table.
United manager Eric ten Hagg announced the news of Martinez’s surgery via the club’s official channels on Sunday (June 2).
He recently suffered a fractured metatarsal in the quarterfinals of the 2022/2023 Europa League against Sevilla in April. Martinez returned in time for pre-season, but never fully recovered.
Eventually, the metatarsal injury reoccurred against Arsenal in September, and although he played in the next two games, he couldn’t take it anymore. 스포츠토토
He went under the knife and is now out for the long term. There was no certainty when he would return.
United have been hit hard by injuries in defense. The left-back position is wiped out. The central defense is also far from its best, with Martinez injured and Rafael Varane still out of form.
As a result, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans should be the center backs. It’s not so bad that they’re even playing Harry Maguire, who has been struggling.
United will have to hold out until the winter transfer window in January. One of the new names on the cards is Matthijs de Ligt (Bayern Munich), a former pupil of Van Gaal’s at Ajax. De Ligt has been pushed out of the starting lineup by the arrival of Kim Min-Jae.
