When Son Heung-min was announced as Tottenham Hotspur’s new captain, it was greeted with a round of applause from the players.
Tottenham posted a video on social media on Wednesday (July 13) showing the moment Son was named the club’s new captain. Son, who also captains the South Korean national soccer team, has been named Tottenham captain for the 2023/24 season.
Ahead of the new season, Tottenham’s captaincy has been shaken up, with several players who have worn the captain’s armband leaving the club.
Veteran goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, who has played for Tottenham since 2012, has been linked with a move away from the club. Harry Kane, arguably Tottenham’s greatest player of all time, recently joined German Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
With both Joris and Kane hanging up their captain’s armbands, Spurs need to find a new captain. The new captain decided by Spurs’ hierarchy, including head coach Enzi Postecoglou, is none other than Son Heung-min.
According to a video released by Spurs, Postecoglou gathered the players together to announce the new captain. Before announcing the captain, he gave a short speech about the new season ahead.
Tottenham will kick off the 2023/24 Premier League season on Aug. 13 at 10 p.m. when they host Brentford at the GTEK Community Stadium in London, England.
“The new season starts in a minute and as I’ve said from day one, part of the process of becoming the person and the team we want to be is that you create the environment, you create the environment for yourself, so the locker room is your space,” Postecoglou said.
“It’s not up to me to tell you what kind of environment you need to present,” he said, adding, “This is your locker room, it’s your home.”
“What does it take for us to be at our best every day, to improve, to play our best every week,” he said, “and in that context, a lot of the responsibility will fall on you.”
“The coaches will see how you behave, train and play, and they will give us guidance, but I really want this to be driven by you,” Postecoglou emphasized to the players. 먹튀검증
After a short speech, Postecoglu announced to the players, “As the new season approaches, we need leadership, and we have decided to make Son Heung-min our new captain,” he said.
As Postecoglou personally announced Son as the new Tottenham captain, his teammates clapped in unison to welcome the new captain.
Heung-min stood up from his chair and walked up to the podium to the applause of his teammates and manager. Once on the podium, Son hugged Postecoglou and announced his intentions as the team’s new captain.
According to Tottenham’s official website, Heung-min said, “It’s a great honor to become the captain of this huge club. It’s a big surprise and a very proud moment. I have already
